The Tomioka Silk Mill is a historic former silk mill located in Tomioka, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. It was established in 1872 and was one of the first modern silk-reeling factories in Japan. It played a crucial role in Japan’s modernization and introduction of European technology to the silk industry. The mill operated for over 100 years before being closed in 1987.
